Captain Marvel

captainmarvel-posterIt has been a few hours since I wandered out of the theater after watching this movie. First, I will say I was really excited to see this movie. It is Marvel and therefore it is at least going to be enjoyable, even if it isn’t as good as my favorite (Thor Ragnarok, btw). I was also excited about a female-driven movie and how this would tie into the rest of the cinematic universe. Now that I have had some time to process after my time seeing it, there are some things that I liked, and some things that were “meh.”

The one thing I was having trouble with when I left the theater was how I was feeling after. I knew that I liked it, but there was something else that I couldn’t quite think of. I think I was slightly unfulfilled. I feel as if there could have been more done with her back story. You got a small glimpse, but nothing that really, really showed you who she is. As my boyfriend pointed out, many people in the movie were telling her to control her emotions, but you didn’t really see an extreme amount of them. You saw hints. I understood that perhaps you didn’t see a lot of her past because the character herself couldn’t remember them fully. With that being said. I did, truly, like the movie. I think I will really need to watch it again to really see different things and perhaps take it in a different way.

One thing I really appreciated was how they made Coulson and Nick Fury look younger and do it in a way that it didn’t freak you out. These characters were still recognizable and were just de-aged enough to make it believable. It would have been so bad if Nick Fury didn’t look like Nick Fury. For example, they could have turned out looking like how Jeff Bridges looked in Tron Legacy. That was hard to look at.

Another thing that I enjoyed was the music in this film. There were some 90s’ hits in there and I found myself singing along with them. I also thought that the placements of these songs were well done as well. For example, (spoiler-ish) in part of the last big battle scene Carol is fighting, and Just A Girl by No Doubt is playing in the background. It is a fabulous song to play during that kind of scene. I really did enjoy it.

There are some things in this movie that I haven’t decided on. These things are questions brought about after discussing the movie with my boyfriend. I don’t know if I will be able to come up with my decision without watching the movie again. Perhaps I will watch it again soon and come up with some answers. Overall I did really enjoy the film and I do look forward to watching it again. I also will watch it for the cat. He was definitely one of the best parts of the film. He is quite adorable and quite special (wink, wink).

Before I end my review, for now, there is one last thing that I wanted to address. I appreciated the nod to Stan Lee that they did at the beginning of the movie. I was almost at the point of tears. It was so nicely done, it just made me smile.

What did you think about the movie? Did you like it? Have a movie you would like me to review? Comment Below!
